Any tips to improve brush performance?

Post by DAUB » Sun Sep 06, 2015 1:47 pm

Hi!

I just tried to recreate a tool I use frequently in other apps.
I'm using Paintstorm with OSX 10.10.5
It's a sort of bristle gouache without colour mixing features just with opacity, size and transparency bound to pressure.
It is composed of two 256x256 brush tips (bforms) made by me.

Image

No texture, no stabilizer, only a 14.2 of Brightness variance.

Up to 96px size no issues.
Form 128 to 256px size it slows down with huge lags...
Any tips to improve brushes performance?

PS: Don't think it's an hw issue, but this is my configuration:

MBPR
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB
i7 Quad 2.6GHz
Cintiq 27QHD

Hello. right now I can say just that you have good PC.
To detect lag reason I must see all brush settings panel.

Other questions:
1)Do you have same lag with some of default brushes?
2)Did you try to use default brush forms with this your brush?

well just my experience here, but when I make my own brushes...the lag I get is when I start mapping a lot of things to a lot of things.Like have the size be calculated based on pressure, speed, randomness and something else. And then have all the other parameters like opacity and transparency and so on,being mapped to something.I guess having a lot of calculations mapped to your brush will make it lag.And it might not be lagging because of your PC ,but because of how the PSS code works.I'm no programmer but I was told few months ago, that if PS was reworked from the ground up with new code,it would be much faster. But since the core code of PS is really old,it can slow down at times. So sometimes the software code is what makes the software itself ,be slow.
Again I'm no programmer, but my point is to watch out for to much stuff mapped.

After correction controller is really slow, but other - like "opacity/pressure" - is not gives any lags.
