Transparency Pressue VS Opacity Problem

Post by Jessicruel » Fri Dec 15, 2017 2:18 pm

Pen pressure with transparency has a crazy jump in pressure. Opacity is smoother. No idea what causes this but both settings were completely plain with JUST pen pressure on transparency or opacity for testing.

Only happens in Paintstorm. Clip Studio Paint and Photoshop are not affected by this no matter the pressure settings, they always work as predicted.

EDIT: Tested with Huion Q11K, Kamvas Display, and a Wacom Bamboo. On different computers, both using Windows 10.

Happens with Color Amount too.

It seems the only thing that "eases" into pressure is Opacity. Thus far Transparency and Color Amount set to linear pen pressure both have an abrupt jump in pressure.

I haven't noticed this.

You could try going into File > Options > Main, and change the graph for the Global pen pressure hardness, maybe that will help

GPP doesnt really change anything. It still happens, just with whatever settings the GPP is set to.

It appears you have “bristle amount” (formerly feature) enabled, which is a bit like a line airbrush - it’s spraying hard lines between interpreted points within the form/dab. Your circular form’s curve will determine a density/spread of these points. Hard elements like this have a glazing effect when transparency is used. If your upper limit is set toward 100% and your spacing is tight you’ll quickly go full on glazing a lot of hard lines. If you are combining transparency with opacity you may see a suitable modification to the curve. Try experimenting further with “color amount” + pressure and “extends color” + inverted pressure for an interesting watercolor blender.
A custom form with bristle elements may also get your effect while allowing transparency a softer curve. You could also experiment with pressure setting on feature.
Testing on my ipad shows transparency behaving as expected.
Updated with new test: column 1 - adding pressure on bristle amount, column 2- using different form softness, column 3- using 30% max opacity
All brushes used 10 spacing with color black
What do you think? I have a heavy hand so I prefer 30% max opacity

in the new version which coming soon, you could setup pressure stabilization. The stabilizer engine will be generally redone.
