Excessive GPU on idle

Post by simon_dominic » Thu Feb 25, 2021 8:31 pm

On my new PC, Paintstorm uses a constant 16-19% GPU when doing nothing and minimized to the task bar.

I've tried disabling multi-core, and turning off GPU acceleration before I minimise it, but nothing makes a difference.

Is there any way of stopping this, or will it be fixed in an update?

EDIT: I can get this down to 11 - 13% when I choose v-sync in Options. Still, I would rather it be 0% as it does take a toll on the GPU hardware (I normally have it running 14 hours a day, every day).

This seems to be one of the reasons why PSS is draining battery on mobile devices so fast. Imo PSS should implement UI redrawing only when it is needed (I think it is the reason for excessive gpu usage).

Yes, the lowest GPU usage I can get it down to whilst idle is 15W, which isn't a big deal on a PC but will obviously contribute to draining a battery.

I hope this can be fixed because otherwise the GPU usage is very good.

The new update fixed this. GPU minimised only 2%, and full-screen 4%.

Nice job!
