I've got exactly the same problem (iPad pro 3rd gen) and I'm sure the image I'd like to import is bigger than 64x64 pixels. Also it says the Canvas should be not less than 64x64. Mine atm is 1700x2500. Any ideas? Is it something to do with screenshots? Because it's happening with them only (I think)...
