Seamless mode

I have a question about using seamless mode. When I use a brush I can draw across the frame but when I import an image and try to position it across the frame the bits outside the frame disappear. I'm sure I had it working before so I assume I've changed a crucial setting. Can anyone help?!
I bought Paintstorm for this feature but clearly don't know what I'm doing!!

To repeat image with transform - use "free transform" mode (CTRL+T)
