Hi,
I found very powerfull the option to use a gradient for a brush, anyway would be better if I choose linear gradient I can control also the direction of the gradient to mimic a light source.
Another suggestion is to add to the fill tool the opportunity to fill with texture.

Pictured are settings that allow the angle of gradient on a brush form to align to your pen direction, flowing toward the tip of your pen direction.
The key is to offset second angle 90 degrees (or 270) in conjunction with the form angle.
I also offset the center of the brush to give it an airbrush feel.
