My system specs:
Windows 7 Pro 64-bit and Windows 10 64-bit - Dual Boot
16Gb Ram
Intel i7 2600K @3.40GHz / 3.50 GHz
Paintstorm with large canvas, I typically set to 6k by 4k pixels
After a period of time the memory and CPU usage causes the entire system to come to a halt and the only way to recover is to do a hard shut down of the computer. I have lost work due to this issue even though there is suppose to be auto saves when the system becomes unresponsive the saves don't happen and everything from the last save is lost.
System becomes unresponsive - Too many resources used
Re: System becomes unresponsive - Too many resources used
To me, it seems to be a virtual memory saturation problem. This is the kind of problem that can happen when you're working on big files. I was working with 16go ram before and had that problem from time to time, and with other softwares too. I tweaked my virtual memory setting (when ram is full, it takes on, but if it comes to be full too, then a crash is to be expected). Lately I upgraded to 32go and I don't have this problem anymore and my station is really faster.
But maybe I'm wrong. In any case, I suggest you open the ressource monitor and check what's going on with your component usage when it's happening next time.

Re: System becomes unresponsive - Too many resources used
I have the several PC freezes with previous Wacom drivers - but for me, it started not immediately - like every second is slower and slower until all PC has been "frozen". Now glitch is gone - I don't know Windows update or wacom update was helped.
Re: System becomes unresponsive - Too many resources used
This is a paintstorm studio issue, I opened task manager when the system would allow and paintstorm studio was steadily increasing it's use of memory and the CPU usage was tacked at 100% usage.

Maybe try to disable multicore support in Menu-file-options-Performance
