bas-relief painting (depth)

Post by ciano » Wed Feb 14, 2018 4:25 pm

Hi!
first of all, compliment for this nice piece of software!
The suggestion that I want to give is something that other software doesn't have, the possibility to draw a depth buffer so we can have 2 advantages, shadows and stroke deformation, so when we paint or just apply a texture it will wrap/deform accordingly to the depth map (or normal map)
Another suggestion would be a bridge between Paintstorm and 3d Coat to use the power of paintstorm on 3d coat.

Thanks,
Ciano

We've thought about it, this feature realized in Artrage.
Wha about the bridge - just save PSD and it will be updated in 3dCoat.

You can set PSS as external editor in 3dcoat preferences

Well I don't know art rage, I used in the past Corel Painter which has kinda 3d brushes where you can even change the lights and see the shadows changing, but what I'm asking it's a bit different, when you use the 3d brushes in corel painter and make some strokes, after if you put a layer on the top it doesn't deform respecting the "normals" of the surface. Becouse you have implemented the GPU support, than you can easily support normal/depth layer. This could be very usefull for putting logos or even better textures on a volume.

I know that this probably is too off as a goal becouase its a 2d software and not a 3d sculpting but would be nice!

Thanks, Ciano

I believe the OP is asking if painstorm supports an impasto effect?

It's a real oil :) You must understand that real physique is much harder, all CG is just a simulation
