IPAD Pick area color

Can you explain what this hot butto. is used for and how to use it? I have tried numerous ways and it does not appear to do anything. I was looking for a way to duplicate picking multiple colors like you can on the desktop

Pick area color works only for hairy brushes, also - don't change brush size after picking.
