Win 7 x64 virtual - empty window

I use linux for most things and have virtualbox (5.0.14) with win 7 x64 to use art programs. It usually works pretty well, but here I've installed paintstorm and... not much happens. Although it says 'running' I can't do anything with it except for closing it. Version is 1.52_x64

Tried allowing it through win defender and firewall as per this thread but it didn't make any difference. Turned them off entirely and still no difference.

I realize using it this way probably isn't technically supported but for all I know its problem may have nothing to do with virtualbox.

Try 1.53 version, 1.52 - have some issues with start window position.

I tried it earlier today. There's a slight (very slight) improvement in that I can now minimize and maximize the window, however it's still just an empty window that shows the desktop.
