How to keep brush settings from disappearing?

Hey, adoring this app. I'm on an iPad 3, iOS 9.

I was wondering, under what conditions do brush settings absolutely, positively, save permanently? I've had some issues with brushes I made disappearing, especially if I close the app in a "rude" way eg. tabbing out of it too long -- the way it sometimes closes itself when I'm not paying attention to it is actually a pretty big issue for me, but I can't tell if it's related to this one, which is much more pressing for me.

If you create brush and Paintstorm crashes - brush will disappear, what's why better save it after creating . Click at the little cogwheel at the bottom of brush panel - select Export brushes.
