A graph represents a formula between two variables. You may bind pen pressure as a input variable to match according to the formula output variable to a parameter such as hue, brightness, opacity, etc.
By using a graph, you can determine that input variable (pressure) can be customized visually, without knowledge of formulas. On the graph, left/ right is input, up/down is output. An uphill slope is normal, where more pressure creates more output parameter. A downhill slope is inverted, where more pressure reduces output.
Note that roller coaster curves can be made. As input increases, moving right, the output follows the curve, up and down, up and down. This is the key visual to understanding the graph. For each incremental value of pressure, the roller coaster moves right over the curve, returning a value to a chosen parameter- your cheering visual effects. The ride ends at full pressure to the far right.
